Why Wela Thong
What makes this workshop a different choice
There are many places in Bangkok where a watch can be serviced. This page sets out, plainly, what distinguishes the way Wela Thong works.

Six reasons clients return
Each of these reflects a deliberate choice about how the workshop is run — not a marketing position.
Goldsmith-quality case work
Case and bracelet finishing is done by hand, using the same discipline applied in fine jewellery work. Polished surfaces stay polished; brushed surfaces are re-drawn correctly — not blended into each other.
In-house movement expertise
Movement service and case finishing are handled within the same workshop by people who communicate directly. There is no outsourcing, no handoff, and no gap between what the movement technician knows and what the case specialist does.
Honest, open conversation
We share our findings before any work begins. If a watch needs less than expected, we say so. If it needs more, we explain why — and nothing additional is undertaken without the client's explicit understanding.
Controlled workload
Wela Thong limits the number of watches accepted at any one time. This is a practical choice — not a marketing stance. It means each piece receives proper time and focus rather than being fitted into a production schedule.
Quality materials throughout
We use Moebius lubricants, quality mainsprings from established suppliers, and do not substitute materials to reduce cost. The parts fitted to your watch are chosen for their performance over time, not their margin.
Written service records
Each completed service is accompanied by a written record — what was found, what was done, timing results, and any notes for the watch's ongoing care. This record travels with the watch for future reference.
Professional Expertise
Over 15 years servicing mechanical movements
Wela Thong has been working with mechanical movements in Bangkok since 2009. In that time, the workshop has handled a wide range of calibres — from common ETA-based Swiss movements to vintage Japanese pieces and, occasionally, more complex complications brought in by collectors.
The team does not take on work that falls outside its competence, and is direct about that when it occurs. This selectiveness is itself a measure of expertise.
- Swiss and Japanese automatic calibres
- Manual wind and vintage movements
- Dress watches and tool watches
- Complex case geometries and integrated bracelets
- Timing machine assessment for every overhaul
- Elma ultrasonic cleaning equipment
- Witschi timing machine for multi-position regulation
- Dedicated hand-finishing tools for case surfaces
- Moebius lubricants — correct grade per component
- Individual piece tracking from drop-off to collection
Tools & Process
Equipment chosen for quality, not economy
The tools used in watchwork matter significantly. Ultrasonic cleaning reaches parts that hand cleaning misses. A proper timing machine reads rate variation across positions that a simple app cannot detect. Wela Thong equips the workshop for the standard of work it aims to deliver.
All watches are tracked individually through a written log — no piece is anonymous in the workshop, and nothing is misplaced or confused with another.
Client Experience
A calm, unhurried service from first contact
From the first enquiry through to collection, Wela Thong approaches the service conversation without pressure. We understand that leaving a valued watch with someone is an act of trust, and we treat that accordingly.
Updates are given at meaningful points in the service — not as marketing touchpoints, but because clients reasonably want to know how their watch is progressing.
- Initial consultation at no charge
- Written estimate before work starts
- Progress updates during longer services
- Completion notes on collection
- Post-service questions welcomed

Straightforward pricing, no additions without discussion

There are no administrative fees, handling charges, or assessments added after the fact.
How We Compare
Wela Thong versus typical workshop approaches
This is not a criticism of other workshops — it is a factual description of where the approaches differ.
| Service aspect | Typical high-volume workshop | Wela Thong |
|---|---|---|
| Case finishing | Machine-buffed, surfaces often blended | Hand-finished per surface type |
| Pre-work assessment | Service booked without examination | Assessment before any commitment |
| Documentation | Invoice only on collection | Written service record included |
| Lubricant quality | Variable, not always specified | Moebius throughout, correct grade |
| Timing regulation | Single position, if at all | Multi-position, results recorded |
| Scope approval | Additional costs appear on invoice | Discussed and agreed before proceeding |
What Sets Us Apart
Three things you won't find everywhere
Goldsmith in-house
Having a goldsmith on the same bench as the watchmaker is unusual in Bangkok. It means case finishing and movement work are coordinated by people who share a workspace and a conversation — not a delivery handoff.
Assessment before obligation
Every watch is assessed at no charge before a service is confirmed. We tell you what we find, which service we believe is appropriate, and why — then leave the decision entirely with you.
Service records that travel with the watch
The written record we provide on completion is useful for the watch's next service — whoever does it and wherever it takes place. It is documentation of what was done, not a branded receipt.
