German expat, Bangkok

Had a vintage Omega Constellation sent in for a complete overhaul. The assessment was thorough and honest — they mentioned the mainspring was still serviceable but chose to replace it anyway at the standard price. The timing results sheet they provided on collection was a nice touch; not something I'd received from a watchmaker before. The watch has been running within 4 seconds a day since.

My grandfather's Seiko 5 was in fairly rough condition — the bracelet had lost most of its brushed finish and the movement was running poorly. Wela Thong did the Fine Restoration, which was the right call. The case looks very close to what a new piece would have looked like, without being over-polished. Took about six weeks. Slightly longer than estimated, but they kept me informed.

I've tried a few watchmakers in Bangkok over the years. Most of them are fine for battery changes but I'd never been confident sending anything mechanical. Wela Thong was recommended by someone in a collector group I'm part of. First impression was good — Khun Siripong took time to explain what he was looking at and didn't rush the conversation. Refresh service on a Tissot Le Locle; clean result, returned in 10 days.

This was my first time having a watch properly serviced and I wasn't sure what to expect. The workshop was a bit different from what I imagined — very calm, not a shop. They explained everything clearly and were patient with my questions. I left the watch for a Refresh & Polish and it came back in noticeably better shape. The winding feels smoother and the bracelet looks much cleaner. I'll return for the full overhaul next year.

Swiss national, working in Bangkok

As someone from Switzerland, I admit I was sceptical about sending a Longines for service in Bangkok. The workshop did everything right — communicated clearly, didn't oversell, and the movement came back in excellent condition. My only minor note is the turnaround was a week longer than the initial estimate for the overhaul. Not a problem in practice, but worth knowing if you have a specific collection date in mind.

I brought in my late mother's Rado dress watch for restoration — a piece with a lot of personal meaning. The team was considerate about this from the first conversation and didn't rush me into a decision. The Fine Restoration took seven weeks in total. The case finish is beautiful and the movement is running well. The written documentation they provided felt like a proper record for something I intend to keep.

Service Stories

Three watches, three different journeys

The Situation

Vintage automatic worn daily for 12 years without service

A 1970s Swiss automatic, worn as a daily watch since it was inherited, had never been opened. The client noticed increasing rate errors and occasional stopping.

What Was Done

Complete Overhaul

Full disassembly and ultrasonic cleaning revealed dried oil throughout and a fatigued mainspring. All components re-oiled, mainspring renewed, movement regulated in five positions over three days. Duration: 3.5 weeks.

The Result

+6 sec/day, stable across positions

Watch returned running consistently within 6 seconds per day across all positions. Client noted the winding action felt "completely different" — significantly smoother than before service.

"I didn't realise how far the movement had declined until I saw the timing results before and after. The difference was considerable."

The Situation

Dress watch with heavy case wear and machine-buffed surfaces

A client brought in a 1990s dress watch that had been "polished" by a previous workshop — the lugs were rounded, case lines softened, and high-gloss and satin surfaces blended together.

What Was Done

Fine Restoration with case line reconstruction

The goldsmith worked on reinstating the original case geometry by hand — re-defining lug lines and re-applying the correct finish to each surface zone. Movement overhauled in parallel. Duration: 7 weeks.

The Result

Case geometry largely restored; movement running well

The lug lines were recovered significantly. Some metal loss from the previous buffing was permanent, but the case now reads correctly from a distance. Movement stable within 8 sec/day.

"The explanation before the work started — what could and couldn't be recovered — was exactly what I needed to hear."

The Situation

Recently serviced watch still running poorly

A client brought in a watch that had been serviced elsewhere six months prior. It was still losing several minutes a day and the client was uncertain whether to return to the original workshop or try elsewhere.

What Was Done

Diagnosis and targeted overhaul

Timing machine assessment identified an escapement issue not addressed in the previous service. A targeted overhaul was carried out focusing on the escapement and regulating system. Priced accordingly. Duration: 2.5 weeks.

The Result

Stable rate within 5 sec/day

Movement running stably within 5 seconds per day in all tested positions. Client now has the watch as a primary daily piece. Timing records provided alongside a clear description of what was found.

"They didn't dismiss the previous service or try to sell me a complete rebuild. Just diagnosed and fixed the specific problem."
